Let’s be honest, we all dress to impress on a night out. Be it for ourselves, our significant others or to ensure we bag a significant other we’ve all spent hours deliberating which dress will get us noticed. You also have your go-to failsafe outfits that never let you down (unless you’ve left them at the bottom of the laundry pile since the last time it rescued you from a potential breakdown).
Despite it being cold enough to get frostbite waiting for the bus, the winter months are full of evenings out. Halloween, Christmas and New Year mean that this is the season of stand out party dresses. It’s difficult to budget for all these outfits on a student loan especially as it’s not the time to be frivolous and buy throwaway pieces. Now is the time to get the most for your money and some wardrobe essentials that will see you through Pop!, Society Balls and beyond.
Motel have given me the opportunity to have a look at this season’s new pieces I’ve chosen my top 6 pieces for any student’s wardrobe.
This standout monochrome print evokes a 60s vibe and the long sleeves will keep you warm stood in the long queue outside the club. Bodycon will always look good on a night out and this pop art print will mean the compliments come flooding in. Use Edie Sedgwick or Twiggy as your inspiration to optimise the look.
2. Jordan Skinny Jean in Japanese Cherry
Jeans are a staple for any wardrobe but it can get boring wearing them day in day out to lectures.. These are a great alternative to your standard stone wash. They look great with a chunky knit jumper and satchel in the day or dressed up with heels and a blouse in the night. If you’re feeling really daring pair with mismatch florals.
The colour and length of this dress ooze sophistication. Worn with a scarf, trench coat and boots this dress is perfect for when you get stuck late on campus and have no time to change for your night out. Change the boots for heels, the scarf for a necklace, a bit of lipstick and everybody would swear you’d spent hours perfecting the look. The epitome of laidback, ‘oh this old thing?’ cool.
4. Lisa Playsuit in Starry Night
This ditsy print is perfect for Christmas. The neckline on this is simply stunning and despite what people might say about playsuits I’m there biggest fan. I’m also a total sucker for pockets (I desperately try and look nonchalant by leaning against walls with hands resting in my pockets) so this is an ideal club outfit for me.
5. Carole Shirt Dress in City Scene (pictured)
Motel offer this print in numerous dress styles and tops and I’m completely enamoured with it. It’s like wearing a work of art. It manages to look retro and modern at the same time and this dress especially could be worn on Christmas day with the relatives or New Years Eve with the girls. Another 60s inspired look and one that Edie would be jealous of. This is just my ideal dress so I’ll stop gushing now before it gets too embarrassed.
The best thing about Motel is that if you like a print but aren’t too sure the dress will suit you it’s almost always available in an array of different pieces be it a top, shirt, dress or playsuit. In the same way if you find a dress that works for you then you can stock up on it in different colours and prints.
